The former head of the bankrupt Wirecard in the Philippines is dead

The former manager died of natural causes in a Philippine hospital on July 27, said Justice Minister Menardo Guevarra.

It was Bauer who was wanted to be questioned by Philippine investigators in connection with the Wirecard financial case.

Among other things, Philippine investigators accused two immigration officials of falsifying travel documents of former manager Jan Marsalek. The German authorities are also looking for this and it has also been added to Interpol’s list of the most wanted people.

The case started in June, when auditors from Ernst & Young announced that they could not find almost two billion euros in Wirecard’s balance sheet. The company was supposed to have this money in two accounts in Asia, but later admitted that this money probably never existed.

At the end of June, the company declared insolvency under the weight of debt of 3.5 billion euros (92.2 billion crowns).

The Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office is now conducting two prosecutions in parallel. The more recent of them deals with allegations that Braun and two other managers have systematically counterfeited the company’s balance sheet since 2015. They came to this conclusion on the basis of the testimony of a “crown witness”. In addition to Braun, the allegations concern one of the members of the financial board and the former chief accounting officer.

In addition, the prosecutor’s office has previously filed charges against Braun and former company director Jan Marsalk for deceiving shareholders and manipulating the market.

Both Braun and Marsalek are Austrian citizens. Braun has previously resigned from the company in response to the scandal.
