Maurice Brun was like the memory of Montluçon. The former mayor knew better than anyone how to shed light on the present of the city of Bourbonnais in the light of its past. “Montluçon is no longer the ford of the Gallo-Roman era, neither a small town in the Middle Ages, nor an industrial city, but it retains its characteristics: a place of passage, a quiet place, where life is pleasant”, he liked to point out.
Elected at a very young age to municipal councilor
Died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, at the age of 96, lawyer Maurice Brun entered politics at the age of 25, as a municipal councilor. He was mayor of Montluçon between 1972 and 1977, after the death of Jean Nègre, as well as deputy for Allier between 1973 and 1978, sitting in the National Assembly among the non-registered. He also sat on the General Council of Allier between 1972 and 1994.

This humanist, who was involved in the Christian Student Youth, campaigned in the 1950s to “suppress the Villars camp”, as he said, where families of North Africans “we had sought both to rebuild the country after the war, but above all to supply the factories with manpower ”. In recent years, he had welcomed a family of Syrians into his home.

After the death of his wife, Ginette Cotte, with whom he had had three children, Maurice Brun still lived in a house facing the town hall, where his father had settled as a lawyer between the two wars. He loved his city and would never have left it. “I’m fine there. I’ve been there all my life, ”he still said at the end of his life.
Maurice Brun’s funeral will be celebrated in the Notre-Dame de Montluçon church on Monday, August 9. The mountain sends his sincere condolences to his family.
