Neither the amicable negotiation nor the formal notices made things happen. So today, it is the mayor himself who brandishes the threat, in this case that of classification in a state of manifest abandonment. This procedure targets the owners of the buildings that housed the former Chez Streiff café, rue de l’Ancien-Hôpital, and Lion Frères, rue de Paris. In both cases, the warning goes up a notch and explicitly asks owners to start work as soon as possible, otherwise the procedure will follow its course. Theoretically, if they do not respond to the mayor’s request, the families can eventually be expropriated and the building resold (under certain conditions), without the City even having to buy back.
The official reports of provisional manifest abandonment fell on June 14 and 17. From the date of their signature, owners have three months to present a rehabilitation project. Difficult to say what answer they will bring to it. In the case of the Streiff building, disagreements between the heirs are at the origin of the status quo. Regarding the premises of Lion Frères, the sole owner has always opposed a firm refusal to undertake a renovation, even partial.
