According to the Mapo-gu council on the 29th, Rep. Chae was discovered by the police and the ward crackdown team while having a’five-person meeting’ in a party room near Hapjeong Station in Mapo-gu around 11:00 the previous night.
At the time, a report to the effect of “a sound of a large number of people gathered” was received, and Mapo-gu Office requested the police to cooperate and dispatched immediately. There were five people at the site, including Congressman Chae.
Rep. Chae explained to Dong-A.com, “I thought it was an office, not a party room,” and “I was belatedly aware that it was a party room in the process of talking between the owner and the police.” He said, “It was a place to be introduced to local self-employed people.” “You drank alcohol, but I didn’t drink alcohol,” he added. “In conclusion, I am sorry for this happening because I wasn’t careful.” The government banned meetings of more than five people at restaurants nationwide from the 24th to the 3rd of next year. The party room was also included in the group ban. Accordingly, it is expected that five members, including Congressman Chae, will be fined less than 100,000 won and the party room owner will be fined less than 3 million won.
A police official said, “The ward office will take the relevant measures,” and “if the ward office complains of violating the group prohibition order, it will be charged.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Chae was a former secretary to the Democratic Party’s House of Representatives Chung Cheong-rae and was elected as the 8th member of the Mapo-gu Council in 2018.
