The Forgotten Path launches signage

This Association, which was established two years ago, has as its fundamental objective the revitalization of a Pilgrimage way to Santiago that was active during the 9th to 11th centuries and whose layout runs from Bilbao to Villafranca del Bierzowhere it joins the French Way.

As a previous step to any action, there must be an adequate and sufficient route signage so that it is easily passable and is complemented by basic information about it. In this area, the Association has promoted and financed, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Junta de Castilla y León, the design, manufacture and placement of 23 information panels of the Forgotten Path that have been placed at strategic points of the route in each of the 22 Municipalities that are part of the Association.

The panels placed have a very visual content, making known the most relevant aspects or places of the municipality in which they are installed, through content, images, maps and photographs that achieve an effective and attractive result for the user. The main information is adapted for the visually impaired with the incorporation of texts in the Braille system, thanks to the collaboration of ONCE, and expanded texts for people with reduced vision. They also take advantage of new technologies including QR codes for those who need more comprehensive information. They are made of aluminum and have dimensions of one meter by one meter and ten centimeters. In particular, the combs have been placed in the municipalities de Valderrueda, Cistierna, La Ercina, Boñar, La Vecilla, Valdepiélago, Matallana de Torío, La Robla, Vegacervera, La Pola de Gordón, Carrocera, Soto y Amío, Riello, Murias de Paredes, Igüeña, Noceda del Bierzo, Congosto, Cubillos del Sil, Cabañas Raras, Camponaraya and Villafranca del Bierzo.

The Leonese Association of the Forgotten Path is firmly committed to “Resurrection” of this Jacobean route which will undoubtedly be economic revitalization of these mountain areas of our province that currently suffer from major depopulation problems, an aging population and little business activity.
