Last weekend, the Xàbia Rhythmic Gimnàstica Club returned to a national championship after several years of absence, participating in the Spanish Basic Championship in Ensembles, which took place at the Siglo XXI Pavilion in Zaragoza.
The club was represented by the members of the junior team, a group consisting of Emma Catalá, Sofía Leyda, Clara Savall, Mireia Gómez and María Castillo, who already demonstrated their talent and dedication on the mat at the age of 6 and 7.
The junior gymnasts were able to qualify for this competition after passing the regional phase on October 19th. In Zaragoza they competed alongside 47 other teams in a day full of emotions and effort. Although they failed to reach the podium, they managed to finish 35th, an encouraging result for such a young team making their debut at an event of this magnitude. This achievement made their coaches Vicky Bolufer and Natalia proud of their students’ performance and commitment.
For the Club Gimnàstica Rítmica Xàbia, this participation represents an important return to the national stage, as it has not participated in a championship of this category since 2017, partly due to the interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The club’s goal for next season is now to return to national level, either individually, in groups or both.
The Interclubs Trophy in Xàbia
The club is not resting and is already preparing for the Interclubs Trofeu, which will take place this Sunday, December 1st, at the Miguel Buigues Pavilion in Xàbia. 350 girls from different clubs will take part in this event, offering a day full of gymnastics and solidarity.
In addition, the funds raised through raffles and collaborations will be transferred to the gymnastics clubs affected by DANA, strengthening the commitment of the Xàbia Rhythmic Gimnàstica Club to the sports community.
Considering the club’s recent return to national competition and its focus on rebuilding, what specific strategies does Coach Bolufer plan to use to prepare the team for future success at both national and potentially international levels?
