the foreign policy action of the VPDC and Minister Tajani from the Farnesina – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

On 22 October 2022, the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani took the oath of office in the hands of the President of the Republic. On 22 October 2024, the Meloni Government, the first in the history of Italy to be led by a woman, turns two and has become the seventh longest-serving Executive of the Republic.

To list and describe the most important results achieved by the executive, the Presidency of the Council has prepared a document which incorporates and enhances the contributions received from the entire administrative machinery of the State.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was at the center of the Government’s action to allow Italy to acquire a new centrality and renewed protagonism at an international level: “as a central pillar of my mandate” – stated the Vice President Tajani – “I immediately placed the coherence, reliability and credibility of the Government, even in the face of geopolitical crises, for an Italy as a protagonist in the EU and NATO, the centrality of the enlarged Mediterranean, support for the integration of the Balkans Western countries in the EU, the development of a balanced relationship with China through the new strategic partnership, an equal relationship with Africa and the Global South and a revival of relations with Latin America”.

It is precisely the security, stability and prosperity of Africa that have been placed at the center of the agenda of the Italian Presidency of the G7. The implementation of the Mattei Plan – with over 30 development cooperation projects and a financial allocation of 5.5 billion euros – is tangible proof of Italy’s renewed commitment to the continent.

Italy is also at the forefront of diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in the face of the major international crises that have developed in the last two years: think of the decision to host the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Rome in 2025 and the “Food for Gaza”, launched by Minister Tajani to provide concrete help for the food security and health of Palestinian civilians.

From the tactical command of the Aspides Mission in the Red Sea, to the strengthening of assistance to compatriots abroad, to the launch of the “Roots Tourism” initiative, to the activities to support exports and the internationalization of companies: two full years of activities, projects, collaborations and important results.
