The foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia could hold a meeting this month

The foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia could hold a tripartite meeting “in the second half of January,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced on Saturday after a phone call with his Russian counterpart.

Cavusoglu discussed with Lavrov the recent meeting between the defense ministers of the three countries in Moscow.

“We have decided to hold a tripartite meeting in the second half of January. The meeting could take place in another country,” Davutoglu told reporters, according to Turkish broadcaster NTV.

A tripartite meeting between Turkish, Syrian and Russian defense ministers was held in Moscow on Wednesday, the first since the outbreak of war in Syria in 2011, which caused severe tension in relations between Ankara and Damascus.

Last week, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Ankara would not take any steps that could embarrass its Syrian brothers, whether they live inside their country or in Turkey.

Akar said in a press statement on Thursday that Turkey will not take any action against the Syrian people.

He mentioned the tripartite meeting that took place yesterday in Moscow, in the presence of the defense ministers and the heads of the intelligence services of Turkey, Russia and the Syrian regime.

In this regard, he said, “we exchanged information and views on the refugee problem and on the fight against all terrorist organizations in Syria”.

He added: “We have done our part to secure and maintain peace, calm and stability in our region. We will continue to do so from now on.”
