The foreign ministers of Spain and the United Kingdom will meet next Monday in London Campo de Gibraltar in the 21st century

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, will meet this Monday in London with his British counterpart, David Lamy, to deal with the extensive agenda of relations between Spain and the United Kingdom which also include the negotiations on the Convention that it aims at. To avoid a hard Brexit at the Gate and establish a new status for the Rock in relation to the European Union, after Britain left, three and a half years ago.

In the portfolio, there are bilateral relations in commercial, migration or Defense matters. Regarding Gibraltar, in the last few days there may have been some tension between the parties, after the long stagnation in the negotiations caused by the European elections on June 4 and the British elections on July 4.

Shortly after Lamny became head of British diplomacy, he and Albares had a telephone conversation, and the two discussed Gibraltar at a meeting held in early July on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington.

As for what was discussed there, Albares said he and his UK counterpart agreed to restart talks on Gibraltar as soon as possible, but he also said Lammy needed time. to keep up with the progress of the negotiations. Last week, the head of the Foreign Office received the Prime Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo, and his Deputy Prime Minister Joseph García, in his office in London. And the two leaders of Gibraltar held meetings this week with the British Secretary of State for Europe and Gibraltar, Stephen Doughty, while he is visiting the Rock.

In fact, García spoke to Doughty maintaining a cautious approach to contingency planning, in case negotiations fail. They are both political co-chairs of the Preparatory Council for a No Negotiated Outcome between the Governments of the United Kingdom and Gibraltar.
