The Foreign Minister of Lithuania meets with exiled Russian entrepreneur and anti-Putin leader to discuss Russian opposition and challenges in civil society

The Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, met today in Vilnius with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, an exiled Russian entrepreneur and oligarch, founder and leader of the anti-Putin organization “Open Russia”, recognized by the Russian government as a “foreign agent”. During the meeting, Landsbergis and Khodorkovsky discussed the immediate goals of the Russian opposition and the challenges facing civil society in Russia. “The threat posed by Russia, governed by the Kremlin regime, remains such,” the Lithuanian minister said, adding that, faced with it, no one in Europe and in the world can feel safe. Landsbergis also hoped that the convinced continuation of military and humanitarian support to Ukraine will be accompanied by greater activism of the opposition within Russia, a precondition for real political changes to take place in the country. “Only in this way”, Landsbergis commented, “can there be a real alternative to Putin’s regime”.
