LUBIANA The Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), which is preparing models for the development of the epidemic, has released a new forecast. According to the calculations of their scholars, on Friday Slovenia should reach the red phase according to the parameters of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
The entry into the dark red phase is scheduled for mid-September. According to studies, hospitals will receive 60 Covid-19 patients every day in the second half of September.
At the same time, they predict that due to the high infectivity of the delta variant of the Covid-19 virus, the fourth wave is expected to be so strong that more or less every unvaccinated person will be infected by spring.
Meanwhile, in Croatia the number of new Covid-19 infections continues to grow at a worrying rate, with an average increase of 35 percent on a weekly basis. On Wednesday 25 August, 677 new positive cases were confirmed, up from 361 seven days ago, and a total of almost three thousand patients with active infection. This growth could turn the country red in the coming days, starting with the Adriatic regions, on the map of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, and put the final phase of the tourist season at risk.
In these days, one million foreign tourists are on vacation on the Croatian coast and the overall results for the sector, the main engine of the country’s economy, are far above the most optimistic estimates, with almost 80 percent of turnover compared to 2019. The most critical situation in terms of infections is in Dalmatia, which also records the lowest percentage of the adult population vaccinated, to date of just 43 percent. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 370,000 cases of infection have been recorded in Croatia, nine percent of the entire population, and 8,310 people have died. –
