The Forced Mobilization Tactics of the Russian Army: Violations and Consequences in Ukraine

“It’s a forced mobilization: the occupiers caught people on the streets or went to some institutions that are still functioning and took people by force. They just put them in uniforms and sent them to the front,” said Cerniak.

The official added that the Russian military promised to send many of the mobilized Ukrainians to the second or third lines, but they were actually sent to the front line.

Chernyak also stated that the Russian army forced students to join the army.

“A man went to lectures one morning, and two days later he was in battle. Strictly speaking, Russia does not consider the people of Donetsk or Luhansk regions to be human, so they don’t care if they obey the law,” he said.

He added that the only chance of survival for the people mobilized from the annexed territories is to surrender at the first opportunity.
