The Football Observatory has compiled the ranking of the most expensive squads in the five main European championships. At the top of the hierarchy, Paris Saint-Germain spent an insane amount of money to put together its squad.
With total expenditure estimated at 349.50 million euros, according to figures from Transfer market, Paris Saint-Germain ended the summer transfer window in third place among the most active clubs, behind the English Chelsea and the Saudis Al-Hilal. No less than twelve new players joined the ranks of the capital club this summer. On the podium of the most expensive recruits of the Ile-de-France off-season, French striker Randal Kolo Muani arrived at the Parc des Princes for a check for 95 million euros, ahead of Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte (60 million euros) and French winger Ousmane Dembélé (50 million euros).
8 English clubs in the Top 10
According to a study published by the Football Observatory, PSG is one of the clubs which spent the most money to compose their group. According to CIES, the current squad of the Ligue 1 juggernaut is worth 1 billion euros. Despite the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Marco Verratti, sold to Al-Arabi, Paris remains very well ranked, the presence of French striker Kylian Mbappé having something to do with it. Fourth in the standings, Paris Saint-Germain is only ahead of three big names in the Premier League, namely Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.
