The Football Association is prosecuting Hein Vanhaezebrouck for comments about referee De Cremer

The Belgian Football Association will prosecute Hein Vanhaezebrouck (60) for his comments about referee Wesli De Cremer (31) after last weekend’s match against Standard. The AA Gent coach can expect a suspension and a fine.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck was not gentle with referee Wesli De Cremer after the lost match against AA Gent on the Standard field (4-2) last week. His team received a red card and a penalty. Vanhaezebrouck especially did not understand that De Cremer saw a penalty error in Pieter Gerkens’ hand play.

“The ref decides in less than a second. That is not possible,” Vanhaezebrouck said, among other things. “I don’t think that’s normal. Then you are not ready for such a competition. He is a young ref and this is an important and charged match. I think more experienced referees would think for a moment and let the VAR decide.”

The football association takes seriously the fact that Vanhaezebrouck has openly said that he does not think referee De Cremer is qualified to officiate such a match. And that the coach of the Buffaloes personally targets the referee.

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office will demand a suspension of one match day, one match day with a postponement and a fine for Vanhaezebrouck. AA Gent can object to that punishment.
