Walid Al-Attar, Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, said that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) refused to allow fans to attend the Al-Ahly and Zamalek summit in the final of the CAF Champions League (2020) competition.
“We are communicating with the African Union regarding the presence of the masses, but unfortunately there is a refusal to attend the masses due to health requirements,” Al-Attar added, in statements on MBC Egypt.
He continued, “We are trying to convince enough to attend a symbolic number, ie about 2000 or 3000 fans, given that the Egyptian stadiums are vast.”
The final match is scheduled to be held on the 27th of this month between Al-Ahly and Zamalek, at the “Burj Al Arab” stadium in Alexandria, but the Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi authorized the transfer of the match to Cairo Stadium.
Al-Attar also talked about the fate of the new deals and participation in the Egypt Cup competition, saying: “I do not think that the Egypt Cup matches will be played with the new deals, especially after adjusting the initial list date for the new season.”
He explained, “It is possible that the new deals will participate in the final of the cup, which is expected to be held on the fifth of next month.”
It is scheduled that Al-Ahly will play against Abu Qir Fertilizers in the framework of the quarter-final matches of the Egypt Cup, in contrast, the defending champion, Zamalek, will face Masr in the same stage.
Al Ittihad Club of Alexandria and Al-Jaish Vanguard had guaranteed reaching the golden square after defeating the Arab Contractors and Pyramids, respectively.
Walid Al-Attar ended his statements regarding the start of the new season: “It is expected that the new season will start on the eighth or ninth of next month.”
Al-Ahly managed to preserve the league title for the fifth consecutive season and the 42nd in its history, after collecting 89 points, 21 points behind its traditional rivals Zamalek.
