The project, carried by the CPIE Bassin de Thau, is a candidate for aid from the Occitanie Region.
In a context of increasing food insecurity, the CPIE Bassin de Thau is a candidate, via its project “A farmer in the grocery store!” to the participatory budget of the Region (to vote, see box) titled: “Your solutions for sustainable food”.
Short circuits and participatory projects
With this project, the CPIE wishes to enable the supply of food aid with local products, by relying on its network of already existing short food circuits such as “Paniers de Thau”. All this while co-building this project with the beneficiaries and local food aid structures (Secours populaire and Secours catholique de Frontignan committee). The objective is also to promote encounters between the inhabitants of the territory through the organization of outings to farms, workshops around food, the circular economy, and participatory projects. “We have already received the support of the Draaf Occitanie and the DDCS Hérault for this initiative. The support of the Occitanie Region would allow us to complete the funding”, underline its initiators. Three stages will be implemented.
1. The first step consists in continuing to support actions for volunteers with an already predefined project, namely to get closer to the solidarity baskets initiative of the “Marseillais Baskets” which has existed since 2018.
This is to make baskets of fresh fruit and vegetables accessible to families in financial difficulty. The basket costs € 3 for families benefiting from Secours populaire instead of € 18.
2. Continuation of farmers’ markets at the Secours populaire: two a year, one for Christmas. Animation of a working group, create links, meetings: animation of a working group on agricultural issues, in partnership with the volunteer citizens “Paniers de Thau”, the Secours populaire, the farmers.
3. Co-animation of certain workshops such as the garden at the SPF, cooking workshops, environmental education (recycling, composting, circular economy).
