The following is a summary of the occurrence of solar and lunar eclipses over the last five years

SERAMBINEWS.COM, LHOKSEUMAWE – An eclipse is an event where light is blocked from one source by another object, such as sunlight is blocked by the moon which causes a solar eclipse and sunlight is blocked by the earth which causes a lunar eclipse.

A solar eclipse occurs during the new moon phase.

While a lunar eclipse occurs during the full moon phase, not every new moon there will be a solar eclipse and not every full moon there will be a lunar eclipse.

This is because the plane of the moon’s orbit around the earth is not parallel to the plane of the earth’s orbit around the sun.

There are four types of solar eclipses:

The first is a total solar eclipse, where at the peak of the eclipse, the entire solar disc is covered by the lunar disc, so that the sun looks black and emits a beautiful corona light.

Second, a partial eclipse, where at the peak of the eclipse only part of the sun’s disk is covered by the moon’s disk.

Third, an annular eclipse, which is called a ring because when the peak of the eclipse occurs, the lunar disk only covers the middle of the sun’s disk, so that the sun appears to glow on the periphery which is shaped like a ring and in the middle position the sun is black.

Fourth, a hybrid eclipse, where when the peak of the eclipse occurs, in one area a total solar eclipse is seen and in another it is seen in the form of an annular eclipse.
