The voice of the conception of a Flexible iPhone Apple has been around for several years and various patents tend to accredit its existence, but it shouldn’t give birth to a product with a folding screen before 2024 at the latest… and it probably won’t be an iPhone.
Without waiting, a genius handyman developed his own version of the iPhone with a foldable screen. So here’s theiPhone V running on iOS and featuring a flexible screen that folds out like a flip phone.
Its Chinese creator has posted the video of the creation of this unlikely prototype from an iPhone X on Youtube, highlighting all the difficulties that had to be overcome to achieve such a result.
Not that easy to do
It was necessary to reorganize the internal components or choose new ones that could be integrated into the project, choose the right technical options and choose the most efficient hinge.
That of the Motorola RAZR was chosen rather than that of a Galaxy Z Flip, whose curvature is too pronounced for the flexible screen chosen after multiple tests.
It was also necessary to adapt the iOS interface to obtain a functional prototype, if not very ergonomic, but with few options to take advantage of the display folded in half.
The iPhone V is therefore operational and has a folding screen but without the comfort of the latest developments in this area and without an external screen. Folding it in half essentially makes it more compact for transport.
An inspiring project
The video explains the different stages of the iPhone V creation process and the difficulties encountered… that blew the initial budget through multiple trials and errors to find elements that could be adapted to this project that took 200 days to develop .
For its part, Apple still has a few years to polish a foldable screen iPhone, this shouldn’t be expected before 2025 at best. We’ll have to digest another development first: the abandonment of the Lightning connection for a USB-C port mandated in Europe and soon elsewhere as well.
Note that another project has already plugged a USB-C port into an iPhone in 2021, creating a working prototype there too, again from an iPhone X. It was then sold on Ebay for several tens of thousands of euros . dollars.
