“Opening up or keeping educational institutions open, regardless of the incidence value, underscores the importance of day-care centers and schools – on an individual level as well as on a social level. However, such a decision requires a whole series of accompanying measures in order to also do justice to infection protection:
1) two mandatory tests per week for everyone involved in the school as well as for the daycare staff
2) Alternation lessons and mask requirement in class from class 5
3) Suspension of compulsory attendance at school
4) clear guidelines for intervention if there are cases of infection at a facility
“Especially when a fixed limit value no longer applies at the state or district level, it is important to take a close look and react immediately to the specific situation on site. In addition, the measures that have now been agreed should be checked weekly. If they prove to be inadequate, we need an emergency brake in addition to a hotspot strategy. “
Melcher also emphasizes: “The expansion of compulsory tests to include primary school children makes school operations a bit safer at primary level. However, I am particularly concerned about this area. Precisely because there is no obligation to wear a mask in class and it is hardly possible to keep the distances, we have to do more to straighten out primary school operations. In addition, where the youngest are concerned, new, uncomplicated self-tests or pooled tests should be tried out and used regularly. “
“A first mandatory test for everyone should take place immediately after the Easter break. In the following weeks, the first of the two weekly compulsory tests should be taken on the first school day after the weekend. This largely ensures that infections are detected before they are brought into the schools from outside. “
“But we are also aware that it remains a challenge to obtain sufficient tests and make them available on site. We need 1.2 million tests in Saxony for daycare centers and schools alone – and that every week. “
