The flu vaccination campaign begins on Wednesday

HEALTH. Autumn is well underway and it’s time to think about the flu shot.

The annual campaign starts on October 5th. Two vaccines will be offered this year. Each includes antigens representing two viruses of type A and type B.

People with a chronic illness, the elderly and their loved ones are encouraged to make an appointment to be vaccinated to be protected from the complications of the flu.

As in past years, the vaccine is free for those deemed most at risk:

  • people over the age of 75;
  • children 6 months of age and older, adults and pregnant women with diabetes, heart, lung, kidney or weakened immune systems;
  • pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy;
  • people living under the same roof as a child under 6 months of age or a person at risk, as well as their caregivers;
  • health professionals, particularly those who provide direct care to patients.

Although children between the ages of 6 and 23 months and people between the ages of 60 and 74 are not targeted by this campaign, they will still be able to receive the vaccine for free.

Also this year the vaccine is available to everyone in participating pharmacies and in the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS vaccination centers. However, there are fees for customers who are not targeted by this campaign and will only be able to receive the vaccine at the pharmacy.

It is also possible to make an appointment to receive a new dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the vaccination centers at the same time.

To make an appointment, simply log into the portal www.clicsante.ca or call 1-877-817-5279.
