The flu vaccination campaign began in the Province

In unison with the national health portfolio, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health began the flu vaccination campaign in the province. The Province received, from the Nation, a first batch consisting of 408 thousand doses.

The launch was headed by the Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Nicolás Kreplak, and took place at the “Sbarra” hospital in La Plata, together with the Deputy Minister, Alexia Navarro; the Undersecretary for Information Management, Permanent Education and Inspection, Leticia Ceriani; the director of Childhood and Adolescence, Federico Paruelo and the director of the hospital, Liliana Fishkel.

Vaccination will be carried out in stages, starting with health personnel. Then, it will be extended to the other prioritized groups: people from 2 to 64 years old with risk factors, girls and boys from 6 to 24 months, pregnant women in any trimester, postpartum women, and people over 65 years of age.

This year, unlike the previous ones, the action had to be brought forward due to the precipitation of influenza cases. Usually the increase in infections is reflected towards the end of autumn and during the winter, but this time the cases began to spread earlier, especially in children.

“We usually vaccinate before the virus begins to circulate in the country, this year it began to circulate a little earlier. We already have cases in our province and in the country. It is the same flu as always, with a different variant that is not contemplated in the previous vaccines, so you have to get vaccinated, ”explained the minister.

At the same time, he clarified that “the vaccine is not for everyone, a healthy person between 2 and 64 years of age has no indication to be vaccinated.”

Health specialists clarified that the flu vaccine is compatible with the Covid vaccine, so they can be applied without intervals between them.

In addition, they recalled that for people who present risk factors, a medical prescription will not be required to request its application; Instead, the presentation by the citizen of any documentation that certifies the existence of pre-existing diseases will be requested.

The anti-influenza vaccination campaign aims to reduce complications, hospitalizations, deaths and sequelae caused by influenza virus infection in the population at risk. The goal of the health authorities is to achieve coverage greater than or equal to 95% in each group of the population at risk.
