According to Canadian researchers, the flu shot would reduce the risk of stroke. The results of their study were published in The Lancet Public Health journal.
“The flu vaccine is known for its ability to reduce the risk of heart attack and hospitalization in people with heart disease,” explains Dr. Michael Hill, one of the study’s authors.
We wanted to know if the vaccine has the same availability in terms of protection as people at risk of stroke.
Canadian researchers analyzed the medical data of four million Canadians over a nine-year period.
The results confirm the hypothesis of the doctors. Recently vaccinated people have a lower risk of stroke.
“We found that the risk of stroke is significantly lower within six months of the flu shot,” said Dr. Jessalyn Holodinsky, another study author.
