Two to three pictures of the flu are displayed each day during his consultation by general practitioner Ángel Matía, himself a member of the province’s outpatient care at the Burgos Official College of Doctors (Combu). In the HUBU, the trend of the last two years has broken and, since this summer, there are again people hospitalized in the plant due to the flu. The pandemic had cornered the classic winter disease, but both clinical and statistical data indicate that it is back: in Castilla y León a couple of weeks ago enough infections were confirmed to consider that there is an epidemic of flu; that is to say that there is already an incidence of 50 per hundred thousand people in a week.
But the return of this respiratory disease – often underestimated because it is frequent – is plagued by uncertainties. First of all because it occurred two months earlier than usual before the coronavirus pandemic, and that means there is a flu epidemic before the start of the vaccination campaign against this disease among the general population, which will start on Monday. Now only users and workers of residences for the elderly, people with disabilities and religious communities are being prodded. Given this situation, the question arises whether the immunization campaign could lose its effectiveness, which the experts consulted by this journal deny.
