Christmas decorations and Advent wreath making can become a winter story, all that is left is to collect natural materials and indulge in creativity, says Vaira Kārkliņa, an experienced florist and long-term manager of the Liepzars studio. The use of natural materials has always been important, although people still use store-bought things that are artificially created for decor.

–Vaira Kārkliņa has decorated her studio in Liepāja, where she allows people to get to know the world of plants, with cones and chains of light hanging from windows. Although traditionally Advent wreaths are round, she has arranged four candles with plant materials differently.
“The traditional shape of the Advent wreath is round, not in vain it is a wreath, but if we create the decor from natural materials, it can be a thick wooden bark that will have an elongated shape. Find a place for four candles, put candlesticks and then think about the rest. Whether it will be a Christmas tree, a winter view in the forest, or using twigs with moss or lichens, ”Vaira shares.
The Christmas tree can be made of twigs of pine or spruce, the possibilities are different, how to complement your Christmas story, continues the florist: each one himself. “
Vaira says that the studio “Liepzars” used to be actively involved in decorating the city’s spruces, now the works created by florists are smaller, but they are still relevant: “We create Advent wreaths and decorations in different places. It is always interesting for florists to try something new. On the other hand – if we work only with natural materials, then it is possible to achieve a greater effect, because each branch, cone, lichen already has its own story, which he wants to tell. Successfully putting them together creates a decoration with a certain story. ”
