Unidos a Houston Airlines: The flight was diverted to Austin, Texas on Friday due to a mechanical problem that left passengers stranded on the runway when first responders arrived, one of the passengers said.
Flight 2425 departed from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California, when an unspecified problem caused a landing, the airline said.
Joint Flight 2425 from Orange County, California houston “Austin was distracted because he was very careful about a mechanical issue,” the airline said in a statement to Fox News. “The plane landed successfully, the passengers went to the airport and were transferred to the terminal. We have designated a new aircraft to continue the flight to Houston.”
DJ Dillon Nathaniel, who was on his way to a concert in Houston, Dallas, told Fox News that he was working on his computer when the plane’s crew announced a possible emergency.
“The public address system came on and said there was a cargo explosion, there may or may not be a fire,” he said as he tried to pack his suitcase in Austin. “You could feel the plane starting to take off.”
“Everyone was terrified,” he added. “The flight attendants tried to keep everyone as calm as possible.”
Upon landing, passengers were told to drop their bags and exit the plane, Nathaniel said. They stood on the asphalt in the cold for about an hour before the buses arrived, he said.
The video, which he posted on Twitter, shows passengers on the tarmac away from the plane. Nobody was hurt.
Nathaniel, 28, said he was a United platinum member but had to buy one more flight to Dallas to prepare for his collection, which is scheduled to start at midnight on Stereo Live, he said.
