On Friday November 15, 2024, seven cycling associations sent a letter to the various mayors of the Bordeaux metropolis.
A little over a month after the death of a cyclist in Paris, the movements want to make their voices heard to denounce motorized violence. They established five key points for Bordeaux to become a “less polluted, less noisy and less dangerous city”.
Refocus ASVP’s missions
In their open letter, the cycling associations want the missions of the ASVP or the municipal police are “refocused” on “illegal” and “dangerous” parking by motorists.
They take as an example the parking lots short but disturbing around schools.
A prevention campaign
The associations wish to set up a prevention campaign in “collaboration” with the town halls of the Bordeaux metropolis.

Cyclists demand the implementation displays to raise awareness among citizens about road violence on two wheels, pedestrians and people with disabilities.
Creating a meeting zone
To successfully bring together peaceful way the different users, the cyclists are demanding the creation of a “meeting zone” within a radius of “250 meters” around the schools from Bordeaux.
They also want the establishment of a system “ car-free school » at school entry and exit times.
Regain space for mobility
The associations point the finger at “transit traffic” in the heart of the neighborhood. To return to calm traffic, they want the implementation of a “sidewalk plan” to facilitate the movement of people with reduced mobility or strollers.
Bicycles also call for a generalization of one-way traffic to regain public space for the “living” to the detriment of “machines”.
Necessary cycling facilities
Finally, cyclists want the “recommendations of the CEREMA » be applied in the Metropolis. This can make it possible to set up cycling facilities in priority locations to improve the safety of cyclists.
Despite these improvement areasthe seven associations “welcome” the recent initiatives of the Metropolis.
