Six months ago, fitness influencer Sara Dahlström suffered an epileptic seizure and on Monday she passed away.
“Despite chronic fatigue and additional strong medications, she fought until the end, but her body was too weak,” writes her father, Mats Dahlström, in an email to Expressen.
Sara Dahlström became known for her body positivism and received several awards as an inspiration, including Net Angel of the Year and Role Model of the Year. On Instagram, she has over 40,000 followers whom she encourages to self-love – regardless of body type.
“When Sara was 17 years old, she had a rare brain tumor that destroyed her pituitary gland, and after that she had to take all the hormones through medicine, and became very tired. It also meant that she gained weight, and there was nothing that could be done about it. It made her fight for body positivity,” writes her father.
Dad’s words: Enjoyed the best with his sisters
“She lived so that one should not look so negatively at one’s body, but instead look positively at how much one can do with it…for example, lift heavy,” writes Mats Dahlström further.
In 2018, Sara Dahlström became editor-in-chief of the magazine Hälsa Fitness, where she has worked since 2015 after she graduated in journalism. This spring she would have completed her supplementary studies in programming and coding.
“It was her future plan to work with it, and she was really looking forward to it.”
When Sara Dahlström was not training, studying or working, she preferred to spend time with her family.
“Sara enjoyed herself best when she got to meet her sisters and nieces. And they loved their colorful positive fighter of an aunt,” writes her father.
