The Fiscal Board authorizes $ 160 million to attend the coronavirus emergency

The Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) approved that the government use the remaining money from the Emergency Reserve to respond to the emergency created by the coronavirus COVID-19.

In a press release issued tonight, the agency indicated that it authorized the Wanda Vázquez Garced administration to use the remaining $ 160 million in that item, created in the budget, as required in the certified fiscal plan of the central government.

In fiscal years 2019 and 2020, the Emergency Reserve was injected with about $ 130 million.

Previously, the JSF had approved the use of money from the Reserve to attend to the emergency caused by the earthquakes of last January and last week, authorized to withdraw about $ 5 million for the purpose of preparation and prevention against the Coronavirus.

“The JSF will ensure that the government and the special group created by Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced obtain the necessary funds to protect the people of Puerto Rico at this time of emergency,” said the executive director of the fiscal agency, Natalie Jaresko, to the claim that COVID-19 represents “a real threat” to the island and its people.

Tonight, the government confirmed a third positive case of coronavirus, after sources of The new day confirmed that two patients monitored on the island tested positive. Of the tests that were processed today in Puerto Rico, another five gave negative results to the virus.

The disease has already caused over 5,000 deaths and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
