The first Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Dijon

The mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen confirmed that the first eight Ukrainian refugees arrived in Dijon on the night of Wednesday March 9 in Dijon.

Dijon had undertaken to welcome Ukrainian refugees: the first family arrived in the Burgundian capital on the night of Wednesday March 9, 2022. These eight people are housed in the Aubrioux emergency reception center.

They need care because the little girl who accompanies them has a broken ankle and they are all psychologically affected.

Other Ukrainian refugees are expected to arrive today or tomorrow.

Since the meeting provoked Tuesday evening by the town hall of Dijon at the Devosges room, which was attended by 350 people, the authorities have been identifying the available accommodation in the metropolis. Initially, according to the mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen, the refugees will be welcomed at the Aubrioux home, at the international meeting center or in vacant HLM housing. Some residents have also offered to take them in, but permanent accommodation must be found.

The municipal council of Dijon must vote an aid of 100,000 € just like the metropolis. Half of these €200,000 will be paid into FACECO, the external action fund for local authorities. The other will be distributed according to need.

François Rebsamen is in contact with the city councilor of Cluj-Npoca, a Romanian city twinned with Dijon. Located on the Ukrainian border, it welcomes refugees and has expressed needs for medicine and food.

Ukrainian refugees will benefit from a renewable 90-day visa.
