The first trailer for God of War Ragnarok Valhalla found a number of references to old games in the series with Greek mythology

Sony Santa Monica announced Valhalla, free DLC for God of War Ragnarok, releasing next week on PS5 and PS4 during The Game Awards 2023. After careful analysis, fans discovered a number of references to older games in the series with Greek mythology in the announcement trailer.

The most obvious one, which you may have also noticed, is that one of the challenges pits Kratos against a mace-wielding Cyclops, an enemy that appeared in the first God of War trilogy and the PSP spin-offs, but is absent from the new part of the series, not least because it conflicts with Norse mythology.

Another reference is the background music in the second part of the video, a clear reworking of the epic theme that accompanied Kratos in the first games in the series.

The final clue may be the cover of the DLC, which, as you can see under the title, resembles the cover of God of War 2, although in this case it could just be a coincidence.

The fan hypothesis is that God of War Ragnarok Valhalla may feature new challenges related to Greek mythology, which means other old familiar Kratos, such as jellyfish, minotaurs, harpies and others.

We will know about this in a few days. In fact, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is set to release on December 12, 2023 as free DLC for all players on PS5 and PS4.
