The first tests of a body temperature measuring device are performed in Ādaži Primary School

Latvian company SIA “Baltijas Elektro sabiedrība” together with Ādaži municipality performed the first tests of digital body temperature measuring device in Ādaži secondary school primary school, informs the representative of the event organizers Inese Ozoliņa.

This is the first educational institution in Latvia that will be able to identify pupils and school staff with deteriorating health in a timely manner in the new school year, while protecting children from the risks of spreading Covid-19 and other infectious diseases at school. The chamber is expected to be tested by the summer, testing the children in the summer camps, but from the new school year, the system will be fully ready to measure body temperature for the school.

At the first test of the device, the Minister of Education and Science Ilga Šuplinska welcomed the initiative of Ādaži Secondary School Primary School to perceive the crisis as another new opportunity for a higher quality and safer learning environment.

“Ādaži County Council has always been open to innovative solutions, and the installation of certified body temperature measuring devices in Ādaži Secondary School Primary School is a preventive step to live with the new conditions created by the virus and better prepare for the new school year. We are satisfied with the gift from the manufacturer, which is a great benefit for the school, ”says Māris Sprindžuks, Chairman of Ādaži District Council.

“These are Italian-made systems that currently operate in most Italian railway stations, so they have been tested against large numbers of people. We are the official representatives of this manufacturer in Latvia. The cost of installing one such system is up to 20,000 euros, depending on the complexity of the installation. These investments include product, installation, testing and maintenance costs. We are currently interested not only in schools and pre-school institutions, but also in companies, for which it is important to ensure business continuity, ”admits Edgars Bergholcs, Member of the Board of SIA Baltijas Elektro sabiedrība.

The director of Ādaži Secondary School Česlavs Batņa admitted that the school must also do its homework until the new school year and develop procedures for identifying children and staff with high body temperature and then performing manual tests. The principal mentioned the possibility of reducing the spread of any infectious diseases at school as the biggest advantage of the device.

The device will operate remotely without contact with people, and it is adapted to detect the body temperature of a large flow of people as they enter school. When faced with an elevated temperature, the device will signal to the school administrator, who will then act in accordance with the developed procedure, explains I. Ozolina.

The device is of high quality and provides thermographic measurements with a certified accuracy of up to 0.1 degrees. It consists of two different cameras – a thermal camera and an optical camera – that work synergistically. The technology also allows you to edit videos when a face, for example, is obscured. Similar facilities have been operating in public buildings in many European countries since the beginning of the pandemic.
