The first symphony concert was held in the renovated Liepāja stage / Article

In the first part of the concert, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra performed the overture from Leonard Bernstein’s operetta “Candid” and, together with pianist Vestard Šimka, the piano concerto created by the American composer George Gershwin in 1925, which is a particularly bright and energetic combination of jazz and academic music.

In the second part, the visitors of the concert and the vacationers gathered in Jūrmala Park were delighted by the music of the famous Hollywood composer John Williams, written for Steven Spielberg’s famous film “Catch me if you can”. Oskars Petrauskis (saxophone), Marta Kauliņa-Pelnēna (percussion instruments) and Guntis Kolerts (double bass) played the soloist parts in this work.

Spanish moods were evoked in the concert by the famous Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s “Danson no. 2” and the world-famous and audience-loved Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”.
