According to the CEO of Klaipedos Nafta Dariusz Szilenskis, the first delivery of a large LNG load for PGNiG is, after the launch of GIPL, another milestone in the process of building energy independence and security of gas supplies to Lithuania and Poland.

– The supply opens a new stage in the energy integration of the Baltic Sea countries with the rest of Europe and more opportunities to diversify and secure natural gas supplies, especially in the context of the current difficult geopolitical conditions. I am glad that the cooperation with PGNiG, which we started over two years ago, has significantly strengthened thanks to today’s delivery, creating additional opportunities for both contractors – said Szilenskis.

PGNiG is proud

The gas from the first delivery to PGNiG to Klaipeda will be delivered not only to the Polish market, but also to the Baltic States. Part of the cargo is purchased by Elenger, an energy company operating in the Finnish and Baltic markets. In the opinion of the President of Elenger Margus Kaasik, such cooperation “allows us to effectively face the challenges posed by the European gas market in these difficult and breakthrough times”.

– As one of the fastest growing energy companies in the Baltic Sea region, with extensive experience and competence in the field of LNG, we are very pleased that we have acquired such a strong partner as PGNiG, with whom we can jointly work to improve the security of the region in terms of gas supplies – Kaasik emphasized.

PGNiG reminded that it has a diversified LNG import portfolio. As the company informed, it has long-term contracts with a total volume of 12 billion cubic meters. after regasification, signed with suppliers from Qatar and the USA. Of which 7.4 billion cubic meters. was contracted in the Free on Board formula which means that PGNiG itself decides about the port of destination of the cargo. Futures contracts are complemented by spot transactions, also in the FOB formula.

PGNiG has indicated that in 2022 it will have three methane carriers, two of them will be available in the first half of the year, and the third in the second. In addition, the company has signed long-term charter agreements for eight methane carriers, which will be built specifically for the needs of PGNiG. The first of these units will come into use in 2023.
