40 million euros of work, rehabilitated medical thermal baths, a new thermal play area created and from December, a new 800 m2 spa and beauty treatments. Inaugurated last Monday, the Luchon Thermal Baths have become, in the words of Eric Azémar, the mayor of the spa town, “the first stone of the new Luchon”.
Boosted by the investments made by the communities, while waiting for the return of the train to Luchon station next June, it is an entire territory which aspires to revive.
Your reaction following this inauguration?
I believe that we experienced a very important moment there for our city, for its attractiveness and for its image. We no longer had thermal baths worthy of the name. Today, the projects are being carried out one after the other, the gondola and the Luchon Superbagnères station, which is positioned on the four seasons with the desire to live all year round, and not just winter, the return of train. All of this is very positive for our city.

News from the casino?
We are in the process of finalizing the negotiation between the city and the buyer. Once the contract is signed, we will have a temporary casino in Luchon, which will be able to participate in the economy of this new player in our city, while we carry out the necessary work in the building of the old casino. We hope that all this will be resolved at the start of the year with the casino opening for next summer.
For you, is this a dynamic that is starting?
Of course, I am thinking, for example, of the future health center. We have a radiologist there who wants to set up with an ultrasound center, an MRI. That’s an investment of several million euros. The operation was set up with the agreement of the ARS but it still demonstrates the investor’s confidence. The Majestic hotel will also reopen under the leadership of a large hotel group, the circle is becoming virtuous. It is the result of the involvement of everyone, the State, the Region, the department, the community of communes, the city, the elected officials of the territory… The old school on rue Hortense will soon accommodate housing for seasonal, housing with regulated rents will emerge on the land of the former dog track. These are families who will be able to settle in and enroll their children in our schools.

Also with the return of Tour de France?
Again, this is the result of teamwork. On infrastructure, first of all, because without the new Ravi bridge, nothing would have been possible, including the Saint-Aventin town hall. I simply believe that today, we are no longer simply the elected officials of the town of Luchon but rather, of the Country of Luchon. It’s an entire region that participates in this beautiful dynamic and this renewal and I am simply proud to be part of it, with all the others.
