Eat Just Inc., a San Francisco start-up company, became the first business company in the world to receive a state permit to sell man-made chicken. In Singapore, it will be able to sell artificial meat, which it produces by culturing chicken cells. “Meat” with the trade name GOOD Meat is created in a kind of bioreactor, which is a device for a biological reaction, it has a high protein content and, according to the manufacturer, it is also a rich source of minerals.
“For hundreds and thousands of years, we’ve been eating meat with the proviso that we have to kill an animal because of it,” Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of Eat Just, told CNN. Its strategy is part of the American trend to replace meat with vegetable protein, which is already gaining ground in Asia.
Initially, artificial chicken in Singapore should be on the menu of only one restaurant. However, the company plans a wider expansion to other restaurants and retail stores throughout the country. They make no secret of the plan to expand the range of artificial meat with beef and succeed with their products in the markets of the USA and Western Europe.
