The First Slam Dunk: Highest Rated Film of 2023 on Rotten Tomatoes

Rotten Tomatoes has a list of the best-received films of 2023. At the top is a film with a score of 100 percent, the only film on the list. The title is The First Slam Dunk.

The First Slam Dunk had a limited release in Dutch cinemas in July this year. Visitor figures are not known and this indicates that only a few thousand Dutch people were able to see the film in the cinema.

The First Slam Dunk
It was directed by writer Takehiko Inoue, who wrote his own manga series. This series was published from 1990 to 1996 with 31 issues.

The anime was a big hit outside the Netherlands. A whopping $258 million was raised worldwide, of which $106 million in its home country of Japan. In China the film recorded a nice $75.8 million and in South Korea a good $30 million.

Basketball
The First Slam Dunk follows a basketball team from Shohoku High School and focuses mainly on Ryota Miyagi, the team’s point guard. He was born and raised in Okinawa and follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Sota, who died at an early age.

It’s on Rotten Tomatoes The First Slam Dunk at 100 percent after 41 reviews, with six from Top Critics. The film only just meets the criteria to be included in the list. Films with a limited release must have at least 40 reviews, with five from Top Critics.

Beautifully designed
On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ consensus reads about the anime, a combination of 2D hand-drawn animation and 3D techniques: “An exciting, breathtaking, beautifully designed manga adaptation, The First Slam Dunk shoots and scores.”

Unfortunately is The First Slam Dunk Not available to stream anywhere, although it may appear soon Pathé Thuis. We are also still waiting for a DVD or Blu-ray release. Interested in writing for us? We are looking for editors.
