The first Romanian patient with an artificial heart will benefit from a heart transplant

The head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic from the Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplant (IUBCvT) Targu Mures, Dr. Horatiu Suciu, announced on Thursday that a new national premiere will take place here.

This will consist of transplanting a heart to the first Romanian patient who had implanted a device to regulate cardiac output, called heart artificial.

The cord will arrive from Timisoara by helicopter, and the operation should end around 14:00.

The first man with an artificial heart was discharged

A year ago, at IUBCvT Targu Mures, a team led by Dr. Horatiu Suciu, assisted by Dr. Bojan Biocina from Croatia and Dr. Peter Branecky from Germany, performed the first implant to regulate cardiac output in Romania.

At that time, the artificial heart was implanted in a 44-year-old patient from Suceava, the device being inserted inside the left ventricle, and it absorbs all the blood from the ventricle, resting the heart muscle that could not cope with this task.

Dr. Suciu said that this treatment Modern is a complementary procedure, comes to the aid of patients with severe heart failure, which gives them the chance to survive until a heart transplant.

He showed that there are patients who have been sitting on such a device for 6-7 years and that, since January 15, 2015, Romania is aligning itself with international standards in the modern treatment of heart failure.

In Germany, the procedure was introduced in 2007-2008, and in Croatia in 2008.
