Poor infrastructure and high purchase costs of electric cars discourage many who want a zero-emission car. But these issues seem to be resolved gradually. The first road in the world to charge electric cars on the go will be inaugurated in a European country.
And it’s not just about any road, it’s about a highway. Electric car owners often avoid high-speed roads. This is because driving at over 100 km / h, for example, significantly reduces range. But from now on, they will not have to worry about it if they travel to Italy. In the Peninsula will be inaugurated a section of highway on which electric cars can be loaded on the go.
However, the segment will extend over a distance of only 1,050 meters. It will be located on the A35 motorway, which connects Brescia and Milan, near a road junction. An induction charging system, coupled to a one megawatt power source, will transfer electricity to zero-emission cars.
That highway segment will be equipped with 5G connectivity and a technology called “dynamic wireless power transfer.
Highway charging electric cars on the move – Italian authorities have not announced the date of inauguration
Giants in the automotive and technology industries, such as Stellantis and Iveco, are involved in this project started by an Israeli company, ElectReon. Universities in Italy are also part of the team that will bring a charging system for electric cars on the A35 motorway.
The Italian authorities do not give an exact date for the inauguration of that section. The Italian press is talking about a research phase that will last for several months. At this time, specialists are trying to find the most suitable type of asphalt for the special section.
