The first representatives of Beirut: refusing to take advantage of the crisis to change the identity of the region

The first Beirut MPs met against the background of news of the possibility of a bank to sell a property in Sassine, Ashrafieh, which has sparked resentment and rejection by people and actors, due to its impact on demographics and identity of the region .
MPs found it unacceptable to sell properties in Ashrafieh under pressure, and it is one of the results of the financial crisis and the attempt by some banks to sell properties, both to avoid seizures and to secure liquidity in US dollars, which has meant that some parties take advantage of this circumstance to enter areas that were not available to them in the past. The deputies asked if anyone wants to deepen the crisis to take advantage of it, and underlined their desire to preserve the character of the region and the ownership of its lands free from any exploitation and refusing to take advantage of the crisis to change the identity of the region . The meeting concluded with an agreement to find alternative solutions to prevent such a thing from happening in the Ashrafieh region and to avoid population escalation.
The meeting (by telephone) was attended by representatives Ghassan Hasbani, Nadim Gemayel, Jean Talouzian, Hagop Terzian, Jihad Pakradouni and Nicola Sehnaoui.
