The dance Biennale parade, preparations resume. Thus, 80 parades had an appointment this Saturday, May 8 on the forecourt of the Espace Albert Camus, in Bron. A first rehearsal for the actors of this choreography orchestrated by Mourad Merzouki and Pôle en Scènes.

It is Pôle en Scènes which provides artistic direction and organization for the group of dancers from the city of Bron. For these amateur dancers, the preparations for the parade began this Saturday, May 8. The group, which gathered for the first time, rehearsed their choreography in front of the Espace Albert Camus. Mourad Merzouki and the entire artistic team of Pôle en Scènes have chosen to honor the gumboots dance, originally from South Africa. This dance originated at the beginning of the twentieth century, during Apartheid, among black minors.

Due to the health crisis, artistic teams were forced to adapt and had to transform their projects, reduce the number of participants to respect social distancing.

A parade redesigned due to the health crisis

Due to the Covid crisis, the traditional dance biennial parade, which was to take place between Rhône and Saône in early September 2020, has been canceled and postponed. Taking the form of a show, the Biennale parade will take place on the stage of the Grand Théâtre de Fourvière on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June 2021. The show, which brings together amateur and professional artists on stage, is an alternative to the parade usual popular. But the show will not be accessible to everyone on the Fourvière site. “It will be presented during three performances on June 5 and 6 in partnership with the Nuits de Fourvière, in front of a seated audience composed exclusively of participants and their families,” explain the organizers on the official site of the Dance Biennale.

The twelve groups of the metropolis of Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, led by “The grown-ups”, giant puppets, will dance on the stage of the Grand Théâtre. On the program: 5-minute choreographies and 4 groups planned for each of the three scheduled time slots. The dancers of the group Brondillan will be on stage on Sunday June 6. The singer Fatoumata Diawara and the dancer and choreographer Germaine Acogny will be the godmothers of this parade. The Dance Biennale, which was to be held from September 11 to October 2, has been postponed to spring 2021 due to the coronavirus health crisis. This 19th Biennale, which will finally be held from June 1 to 16, 2021, intends to celebrate African creativity and the young artistic scene. This great Lyon cultural event welcomes the great masters of the international contemporary scene and young artists. On the program for this edition: 22 creations, 43 international companies from 21 countries in Europe and Africa.
