In the Lot, there was no palliative care service as such; a gap that has now been filled by the opening, on October 7, of the department’s first unit dedicated to supporting people at the end of their lives, at the Cahors hospital.

This is a first in the Lot. The first palliative care unit in the department will open in Cahors hospitalon October 7. “A real source of pride for the hospital community,” the healthcare facility emphasizes. Composed of seven beds, it will be able to accommodate patients at the end of their life, in unstable situations or for a respite stay for the patient or their caregivers.
Spaces for patients and their loved ones
The brand new spaces of the unit have been “designed with particular attention paid to comfort and support”, specifies the management of the Cahors hospital center. They are also designed to offer an environment that is intended to be “calming and intimate”, allowing patients to receive care “in dignified and respectful conditions”.
The team of this unit, led by Thierry Meurie, includes doctors and psychologists. It is supplemented by paramedical staff. These are nurses, nursing assistants and hospital service agents, but also volunteers. “Their mission is to offer constant and warm support, not only to patients, but also to their loved ones. Dedicated spaces allow families to stay with their loved ones in difficult times, thus promoting a climate of serenity and mutual support,” explains the healthcare establishment.
