Some privileged people were able to discover the latest installment of the franchise Scream, aka Scream VI, and were able to deliver initial opinions.
Scream is back in theaters for a sixth film, only a year after the last installment. The latter, soberly named Scream, had not really convinced, despite its meta approach and the return of former glories of the franchise. But the very good score at the box office of the film (and the very good returns in the United States) convinced the producers of Spyglass and Radio Silence, who quickly validated a sequel project.
Scream VI therefore arrives in our theaters this Wednesday, March 8, 2023, with the ambition of successfully relocating Ghostface to the streets of New York (following in Jason’s footsteps in Manhattan in the Friday the 13th saga). A perilous mission which will be done with almost the entire cast of the last opus, in particular Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Courteney Cox (but not Neve Campbell). We will know very quickly if this sequel is successful, but in the meantime, some Americans have been able to discover the film in preview. Tweet review.
“I had a blast watching the new movie Scream in the heart of New York. A phenomenal opening sequence kicks off a killing spree that does credit to the entire franchise in a very smart way. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera are rockstars, as is Jasmin Savoy Brown. A great time. » Eric Davis – Fandango
“So, Scream 6 kicks off bloody and the rest (the murders – and there are LOTS of them – are all brutal). There’s a tension and grime that comes with the New York setting, and the four main characters make the franchise their own. Still lots of heritage, without having to rely on nostalgia. Really good ! » Sean O’Connell – CinemaBlend
“I feel really lucky to be a hardcore Scream fan. Scream VI is fantastic. So grateful that this franchise fell into the hands of Radio Silence [co-producteurs du film, ndlr], because they continue to deliver. Yes, Ghostface’s attacks and kills are particularly violent – a few might be some of the franchise’s best, at least tension-wise. » Perri Nemiroff – Collider
“I don’t know how they do it, but the Scream team did it again. Scream VI is perhaps the funniest and most twist-packed in the franchise, with great tension, violent kills, and a clever and timely new hook. The movie kept me guessing in every scene. A great use of New York too. How is this franchise still so good? » Germain Lussier- Gizmodo
“Here’s what I’m going to say: Scream VI is why horror should be seen in cinemas. Lots of inventive set pieces that echo that tension, that way of holding our breath and pressing our seat that has defined this franchise from the start. I think about it: the police car in Scream 2.” Michael Roffman – Bloody Disgusting
“Scream VI is pretty awesome! It makes full use of its expanded cast and manages to keep things simple and mean. This big slasher sends crazy kills and tasty twists like it’s the last time. Another victory for the guys from Radio Silence and company. » Simon Thompson – Forbes
As so often, these first American feedbacks are very positive (this was already the case for the last film). But they make it possible to establish the first rather interesting points on the strengths of this new component. First of all, Ghostface seems to live up to its status as a cult slasher monster and the quality of his kills is widely praised (in the movie, let’s be clear).
New York decor is also widely appreciated, just like the cast (especially the headliners). As usual, keep in mind that these people were invited to the screenings and there is still little chance of seeing them destroy the film on social networks. To form an opinion (perhaps more nuanced) on Scream VI, it will have to go to theaters from March 8, 2023.
