Vodafone is the first in the Czech Republic to disconnect the mobile 3G network on March 31. In particular, this means that fast mobile internet will not work on older phones after this date.
2G, 4G and, of course, the most modern 5G networks remain in operation. The operator claims that only 3G is used by older 3G customers. “If you just want to make calls or write SMS, you don’t even have to change your older phone, you will use the nationwide 2G network, which remains,” said its spokesman Ondřej Luštinec.
“In addition to calling, it is possible to use the Internet connection via older GPRS / EDGE technologies,” spokesperson Charlota Dědková specified for TN.cz. However, the Internet is extremely slow and almost unusable with this connection.
If you bought your phone recently, you can stay calm. As a rule, the Internet will not lose devices that are not older than eight years. But if you don’t even remember when you have had your mobile phone, you should check if you don’t have to buy a newer model. It will still be possible to connect via Wi-Fi.
THE MOST COMMON PHONES TO BE REPLACED:
iPhone: iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S

Sony: SONY C1505 – Xperia E, SONY C1605 – Xperia E dual, SONY C6802, XL39h a starší
Vodafone claims that the end of the 3G network will benefit everyone. “While turning off 3G alone will affect a minimum number of customers, it will result in better mobile internet for almost everyone. Symbolically it is a 3G old steam locomotive and 5G the most modern high-speed train. For example, a 1.5GB video will download over 3G in about 14 minutes, while a 5G video in 20 seconds, “ added Luštinec.
By the end of the year, other Czech operators, ie O2 and T-Mobile, will also switch off the 3G network. According to the head of the Association of Mobile Network Operators Jiří Grund, most Czechs will not notice the change at all, because their device uses a 4G network, sometimes called LTE, or the latest 5G.
“Replacing or retuning transmitters will take place gradually. As soon as it is up to date for its customers, each operator will present its own independent renewal schedule and inform customers who may be affected by the change. ” Grund said in February.
