The first Moderna vaccines have arrived at a hospital in Antwerp

The campaign will begin on Monday with the priority vaccination of staff in Covid, intensive care and emergency units. The doses were received at 10:00 am in the pharmaceutical wing of the hospital. They were immediately placed in a -20 ° C freezer.

Priority staff will receive one injection on Monday and a second in four weeks. The 1,000 doses will not be sufficient for all the workers in the services concerned, which are estimated at 1,200. Those who have already been infected have therefore been excluded from the process, like pregnant women, specifies the head of the hospital’s pharmaceutical department, Leen Ronsyn.

Moderna’s first delivery included 8,000 doses, explains the director of the vaccination strategy taskforce, Dirk Ramaekers. For the pilot phase, four hospitals each received 1,000 doses, including the Iris Sud hospital site in Ixelles.

After evaluation, it will be decided next week whether 1,000 doses will in turn be supplied to four other establishments.

Moderna deliveries will gradually increase to reach 13,000 doses in two weeks and 31,000 two weeks later, assures Mr. Ramaekers.
