The first medico-social action center of Chartres is asking for donations to improve its therapeutic and sensory garden

What is Camsp de Chartres?

The Center for Early Medical-Social Action (CAMSP) in Chartres, directed by Dr Françoise Roger, pediatrician, supports around 120 children under 6 with motor, sensory and/or cognitive development disorders. A multidisciplinary team offers varied care adapted to each person, on an outpatient basis, at the Hôtel-Dieu.

There are only two Camsp in the Eure-et-Loir, in Chartres and in Dreux. The area of intervention of that of Chartres extends to Châteaudun and Nogent-le-Rotrou.

Why a therapeutic and sensory garden?

The therapeutic and sensory garden, christened Tom PouSSe and which will be inaugurated in spring 2023, is the result of a long work carried out by the Camsp team since 2015. Émilie Gilson, psychologist and president of thecamsp associationaccurate:

“When the center moved to the former maternity ward in 2007, there was an empty space outside and the team immediately had the idea of creating a garden there. In 2015, a motor skills facility was created. This summer we were able to start a second phase of work. »

Marie Ambroise, psychomotor therapist, and Frédéric Maille, occupational therapist, project managers within Camsp, worked with a landscaper to design the garden, taking into account the needs and expectations of each healthcare professional on the team. A barefoot path has been created a few steps from the play structure. Large containers have been installed to house the plantings.

What is the benefit for the children supervised at Camsp?

The therapeutic and sensory garden has several advantages. Since September, a group of four children aged 4 and 5, who have developmental delays or behavioral problems, have been meeting there on Wednesday mornings for an hour-long session. They learn to take care of nature but also to improve their overall psychomotor skills, to concentrate on an activity, to respect rules and instructions, etc.

“We are already seeing changes in group cohesion”, testify Marie Ambroise and Frédéric Maille. “Even some children who didn’t dare touch the ground are more comfortable. »

“Each carer can also use the garden for individual care,” says Émilie Gilson. “It’s a bubble for children who come from far away and need to breathe after a long journey. The activities offered are different from those of the dining room. It can also be a small reward at the end of the session. The paved path also allows children in wheelchairs to learn to move.

How to participate in the online pot?

The online kitty is open, through December 19, on Human & Go flat-form. For every euro raised, the Human&Go endowment fund undertakes to pay the same amount up to a target of 5,000 euro.

“We exceeded the first stage by 300 euros,” explains Émilie Gilson. “This will allow us to buy seeds, plants, etc. With €1,000 we will be able to buy swings. If we reach €5,000, we will also be able to equip ourselves with hammocks, swings, garden furniture and pay maintenance for a year. »
