Due to the recent coronavirus break, the autumn part of the first league will end for the first time in Czech history the day before Christmas on December 23 and will have 14 rounds. The winter break will last only less than a month, the league spring will start unusually on the weekend of January 16 and 17.
Amendments to the schedule were approved per rollam by the league board of professional clubs, the League Football Association, which manages the first two highest competitions in the Czech Republic, announced in a press release today. Out of a total of 18 first-league teams, 17 voted in favor of the proposal, one was against.
The first league, like other sports competitions, was suspended for a month from October to November due to the deteriorating coronavirus situation in the country, and during that time it did not manage to play three rounds.
According to the original plans, 15 of the total 34 rounds were to take place in the autumn, but after the adjustment of the date list, it will be only 14. The order of the rounds will be maintained according to the original draw.
One of the autumn rounds will take place on Wednesday, December 16, when the third round of the domestic MOL Cup was to be completed, but it was interrupted by the end of the year. The next inserted wheel will be the last before the winter break just the day before Christmas.
The first-league teams will also have a record-breaking break, which will last less than a month. The spring part will start in mid-January and will culminate in the 34th round at the end of May. The postponement to June was not possible due to the participation of the Czech national team in the European Summer Championships.
The schedule of the second league was also modified, which lost four rounds during the forced break. The autumn part ends on the first weekend in December and spring starts at the beginning of March. All 14 second league clubs were in favor of the proposal.
