This year, a new local manufacturer has entered the Latvian natural cosmetics market. The company’s chemists, with more than 15 years of experience in the field of cosmetics, have been studying the effects of the natural active ingredients of the northern wetland plants for three years. Together with the researchers of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, the Labrains laboratory has managed to create the world’s first natural cream that effectively reduces the signs of facial skin aging and the manifestations of rosacea.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammation of the skin that usually manifests as redness of the face.
“I am very pleased that we were the first in the world, as evidenced by market research, to create a unique natural dermocosmetic product. During three years of research and testing, when we created an average of 200 variants for each product, we have achieved a result that we can be proud of – a unique cream that is not yet offered by any cosmetics manufacturer. It is a 100% natural cream that is able to restore the facial skin without causing irritation, but on the contrary – at the same time soothes reddened, rosacea-affected skin, ”says the head of” Labrains “, dr.oec. Līga Brūniņa.
A study was published in 2019 by the US Academy of Dermatology showing that anti-aging or anti-age cosmetics cause slight skin irritation, which can exacerbate the disease in people with rosacea. The study also found that rosacea patients should be aware that they are not suitable anti-age facial care products. Now they are created in Latvia!
Natural cosmetics are experiencing explosion in popularity all over the world, but so far there has been a lack of products for people with problematic facial skin, admits Līga Brūniņa. In the Nordic countries, the prevalence of rosacea is high, affecting 10% and more of the population.
Most of the symptoms of rosacea appear after the age of 30, and redness of the face due to erosion always suffers from premature aging. Therefore, local researchers are pleased that they finally managed to help these people, admits Līga Brūniņa.
As the company is working on new products and the demand for those already on the market is growing rapidly, in 2020 it was decided to increase production capacity by building a new plant. More than 100,000 euros have already been invested in its construction.
The company is awaiting a response from the financial institution Altum for the purchase of a start-up production line for business start-ups and the construction of GMP-compliant production facilities. The new production line is scheduled to start operating in mid-2021.
Natural dermocosmetics for young people suffering from acne are now being tested. Work is also underway to create effective skin care products for people with dermatitis. With the support of European Union (EU) research funds, Labrains Laboratory has studied a special delivery system that could increase the effectiveness of natural cosmetics.
The current research project “Development of high-quality natural cosmetics for dermatitis-affected skin using innovative curing systems”, which has received support from the EU co-financed program “Support for the development of new products and technologies within centers of excellence”, aims to develop skin cleansing and moisturizing products. which will not contain irritating chemical ingredients, including those of natural origin.
Only naturally occurring substances corresponding to cosmetic products, as defined in Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council and whose effectiveness has been tested by raw material manufacturers, shall be used in the products.
Data analysis was performed on the basis of three measurements – before the start of cosmetic use, after about 28 and after 56 days of cosmetic use. Results for rosacea and anti-age in the product test group, which had 21 participants according to methodological requirements, were the best compared to other test groups.
