Opel is preparing the next generation Astra and presents the first images with the model. For the first time in the range, an electrified version will appear.
Opel is working on a new generation Astra. The facelift version of the previous generation is on the market from 2019. The new Astra will receive the EMP2 platform of the Peugeot-Citroen PSA Group, instead of the old General Motors source structure.
The manufacturer is preparing radical changes in terms of design, following a bold new philosophy The car will take over a number of style elements from SUV-ul Mokka, an aspect confirmed by the first images made public by Opel. Official photos show that the model will be equipped with narrow IntelliLux LED headlights. On the back, as shown in the pictures, the model name will be placed centrally on the trunk door. The new company logo will make its place in the radiator grille.
“The future Astra will open an exciting chapter in the 30-year history of the compact model. We are confident that the next generation will leave a strong impression and attract many new customers “, says the company’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller.
The next generation Opel Astra – new materials on board
The model will be available as a five-door hatchback and, for those who want a more spacious car, as a Sports Tourer. In the cabin, the next generation of the Pure Panel system with digital on-board instrumentation will appear. It and the touch display will be reunited under a glass cover. There are few physical buttons left on board. New shapes, textures and materials appear in the cabin. The Opel Astra will receive a new steering wheel and ergonomic front seats, a strong point of the German house.
Astra will also receive an electrified version for the first time, but the Germans keep the mystery about the propulsion system chosen for the future compact.
Developed and designed in Germany, the next generation Opel Astra will go into production this year at the Russelheim plant. Customers will be able to order the car starting in 2022.
