The first factory in Europe for biodegradable edible cups was opened in Plovdiv

The innovative product is available in over 30 countries around the world

The first factory in Europe for biodegradable edible cups was opened in Plovdiv.

“When entrepreneurship and innovation meet professionalism, results are obtained. In Bulgaria, the circular economy is developing rapidly, despite the difficult pandemic situation,” said Economy Minister Daniela Vezieva at the opening.

The factory is located in the industrial zone “Trakia” in Plovdiv, and it employs 30 people on three machines. The glasses are available in over 30 countries around the world. The main goal is to reduce the large amount of waste from plastic cups that decompose. The production building has an area of 3600 square meters. Currently, 2.5 million cups are produced per month, and after the launch of three more production lines, the capacity will increase to 10 million per month.

Plovdiv is an incubator of innovative and creative companies from around the world. I would say this is a “simple” product, which, however, ingeniously solves a current problem on a global scale: zero waste, saving biological resources, a truly environmentally friendly alternative to frequently used packaging. This is the future and an example of how to look for simple, non-standard, working solutions to the pressing issues of our time, said Plovdiv Mayor Zdravko Dimitrov at the opening.

Biodegradable edible cups are part of the green revolution and carry a special message to consumers. The main goal is to reduce the large amount of waste from plastic cups, which decompose in more than 400 years.
