The first eSports World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia with the aim of raising the level of games and electronic sports
The Saudi crown prince, Mohamed bin Salmanhas announced the launch of the first eSports World Cupan event that will be held annually in Saudi Arabia starting in summer 2024. It is considered the largest tournament of its kind globally and aims to elevate the esports sector and solidify Saudi Arabia’s status as a leading destination for global sporting competitions and events.

The announcement took place during the New World Sport Conference, which was attended by prominent figures from the world of sport, including the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and the president of the FIFA, Gianni Infantino. The crown prince also announced the creation of the Foundation of the World Cup for Electronic Sportsa non-profit organization in charge of organizing the championship and fostering collaboration in the esports sector.
The event is expected to generate a significant impact on the Saudi economy, contributing more than 50 billion rials (approximately $13.328 million) to the GDP by 2030 and creating more than 39,000 new jobs in the sector. This effort aims to consolidate Riad as the capital of electronic sports.

The eSports World Cup will be held indoors and will include various activities and events to attract a new category of visitors interested in esports, while also seeking to boost tourism in Riyadh during the summer.
